Beginning with SU 18, Symantec ESM introduces large file support for AIX 4.33 and higher and Solaris 2.7 and higher. NOTE: Do not install on earlier versions of AIX or Solaris.

Description

Install Security Update 18 to upgrade UNIX and Windows security modules on Symantec ESM 6.0 and 5.5 agents. For detailed descriptions of new features and enhancements, download Security Update 18 Release Notes.

Note: Use SU15 for NetWare. In Japanese, SU18 is compatible with Symantec ESM 5.5.3 Japanese on Windows and Solaris operating systems only.

SUSE LINUX

To install the SUSE Standard Server 8 agent:

1. Download Symantec ESM 6.0 SUSE Linux Standard Server 8 Agent Setup to save esmsuse.tar on your computer.
2. Copy esmsuse.tar to your setup files directory.
3. Run tar -xvf esmsuse.tar to extract the setup files.
4. Follow the instructions for installing Symantec ESM on a local computer in the Symantec Enterprise Security Manager Installation Guide.

Installation of Symantec ESM agents for SUSE LINUX does not include patch templates for SUSE LINUX. Use the latest OS Patch policy to obtain current SUSE LINUX patches.

Windows and UNIX platforms

• File Attributes and File Watch: Option to update snapshots automatically.

Windows only platforms

• Account Integrity: Group member watch check and Group Member Watch template
• File Attributes: Wildcard support and examination of ACL executable code in the File template, ability to associate variable keywords with directories in the File Keywords template, File and folder attributes check, and File and folder ownership check.
• Network Integrity: NetBIOS info via SNMP and Anonymous SID/name translation (Windows 2003) checks
• Password Strength: Password stored with reversible encryption (Windows 2000/XP/2003) check.
• Registry: Option to update snapshots automatically and Registry template option to report only one message for all missing mandatory keys that use wildcard characters or messages for every possible wildcard expansion of missing mandatory keys.
• System Auditing: Application event log size, System event log size, and Guest access to event logs checks.

UNIX only platforms

• File Attributes: Wildcard support for the New File template and a new message for the Permissions and User ownership checks.
• File Find: Numeric comparison functionality for the file Content Search template.
• Login Parameters: Additional functionality for the Warning banners check.
• Network Integrity: Anonymous FTP shell check.
• Startup Files: In the Services template, ability to specify whether to report only running services, services in inetd/xinetd, or both.
