IONA Technologies and Symantec Deliver Dramatic Advances in Enterprise Java Development

Cupertino, Calif --August 31, 1998-- IONA Technologies (NASDAQ:IONAY) the world leader in Making Software Work Together™, and Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC), the leading provider of Internet development tools announced today that Visual Café for Java Enterprise Suite will provide support for IONA's Orbix® CORBA enabling technology. The partnership of IONA and Symantec marks the arrival of a new generation of Java middleware applications. By coupling the functionality of Visual Café with the powerful tools offered by IONA's Orbix product family, developers can build large scalable systems that incorporate high level services such as transactions and systems management and support diverse server platforms from Windows to UNIX and the Mainframe.

Visual Café Enterprise Suite will include extensions for Orbix which seamlessly integrate it into the development environment. Once the developer has both Visual Café and Orbix installed they can utilize Visual Café's rapid development environment to build compelling applications and extend those applications using Orbix.
