Symantec Teams with EarthLink in Promotional Offer to Provide Internet Users with the Ultimate in PC Security, Reliability, and Usability
Symantec to Distribute EarthLink TotalAccess Internet Software with Symantec Products;
EarthLink to Promote Symantec Solutions on EarthLink Software CD-ROMs and Web Site
CUPERTINO, Calif. Sept. 1, 1999 Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC)
announced today that it has teamed with EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK) to provide
Internet users the ultimate in security, reliability, and usability. Under the
terms of the cross-promotion agreement, Symantec will bundle EarthLinkıs
TotalAccess Internet software with retail copies of Norton SystemWorks 2000,
Norton AntiVirus 2000 and ACT! 2000, from Symantec beginning September, 1999 and
with copies of pcAnywhere 9.0 in Fall, 1999. For a limited time, EarthLink will
offer one month of free Internet access to users who register for EarthLink
Sprint Internet service from one of the specified Symantec products. EarthLink
will also include trialware of ACT! 2000, pcAnywhere 9.0 and Norton Utilities
2000, on its own TotalAccess software CD-ROMs. Additionally, EarthLink expects to
provide an HTML page and link to Symantecıs Norton SystemWorks 2000 Web page on
the EarthLink Bonus Installer page.
The agreement is a result of Symantecıs long-standing interest in helping remove
the uncertainty and risks associated with using computers and the Internet.
Symantec products offer consumers of all levels of expertise powerful tools to
safeguard PC content as well as improve user productivity through award-winning
utilities, anti-virus software, remote access, and contact management solutions.
All Symantec products have an online update function, and now customers without
an Internet connection will have the opportunity to take advantage of those
features. Also, with this agreement, Symantec continues to empower users with
the solutions and protection they need to remain highly productive and effective
online.
