Symantec Appoints Phil Solk as Vice President, Professional Services
Solk to Head New Organization Responsible for Providing Security Consulting and Implementation Services to Large Corporate Accounts
CUPERTINO, Calif. – Dec. 20, 1999 - Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC)
today announced the appointment of Phil Solk as vice president, Professional
Services. Solk is responsible for establishing Symantec's global Professional
Services organization to help large companies identify and implement comprehensive
security solutions for increasingly complex enterprise environments.
With 23 years of experience in consulting services, Solk most recently established
service organizations at companies including Vitria Technology in Sunnyvale,
Calif., and Enterprise Networking Systems in Redwood City, Calif. He also was a
general manager of the Pacific Northwest for Seer Technologies, based in San
Francisco, where he was responsible for sales, consulting and support. Solk began
his career at International Business Machines, holding a number of positions during
his 15-year tenure managing relationships with customers and partners in the
development of information strategies, planning and technology deployment.

president and CEO. "Phil Solk has the experience to build and grow Symantec's
service organization, leveraging the company's security expertise as a complement
to the broad-based implementation offerings from our channel partners."
During the next year, Solk will focus on building the organization and defining the
global service offerings. He plans to recruit a team of field personnel to manage
consulting and on-site implementation services.
Building on Symantec's existing corporate technical support infrastructure, the
Professional Services organization is expected to work in cooperation with the
company's current sales force and network of channel partners through the sales
process. The organization plans to provide consulting, implementation and
operations services in the growing Internet security market.
Symantec's Professional Services group is expected to work with the sales force
early in the sales process to provide critical consulting in areas including policy
management and risk assessment. In addition, the group plans to work with
Symantec's network of channel partners to provide implementation services such as
installation, configuration, testing and deployment. Finally, Symantec's
professional Services consultants intends to work closely with the customer to
maintain the established policies and ensure the integrity of the security solution
while also providing crisis-response services as needed.
